New WordPress Update to 4.6

The latest WordPress update to go live on our site is version 4.6. Affectionately named “Pepper” in honor of jazz musician Park Frederick “Pepper” Adams III, this new version brings with it a few new updates to how we manage content on our sites.

Link Checker (pictured)

WordPress now checks your links in the content editor for missing text or extra punctuation. This will help keep broken links from being added (and, we'll still have our Broken Link Checker plugin activated and ready to notify you of broken links on your site after publishing a page or post).

Content Recovery

Have you ever started writing up a new post in WordPress only to close the window and realize you never saved your document? Don’t be shy, everyone does it at some point! Never fear, because one of the updates coming with WordPress 4.6 is a new content recovery feature. The browser will save a draft of your work approximately, every 75 seconds. It’s still better to manually save your work yourself, but if the inevitable happens to you, this is a failsafe for those forgetful moments.

Widgets Dropdown Menu

Adding widgets to your home page area is a lot easier. While the drag and drop functionality is still available, you can now add a widget by clicking on the widget and selecting the area you would like to place it in from the drop down menu list.

Apollo 2 Survey Open

You still have time to complete the survey for our new UF Health website template upgrade, the Apollo 2.0. Our current website template, the Apollo, was released in 2011 and has served us well in many regards. However, it’s due for an upgrade. We need your input and guidance to help us in deciding what features we need to incorporate into the new version. Please take a moment to complete the survey linked below; now is your chance to have your voice heard!

Create workflows with "Gravity Flow"

We have a new plugin that we would love to have user feedback on. It’s called Gravity Flow and it  allows you to build a multi-step workflow/approval process on a Gravity Form. This is great for streamlining requests within your office or department, and it’s simple to use! Contact Nina Trombi at ninarz@ufl.edu or 352-273-5770 if you would like to know more about Gravity Flow and have it activated on your site.

The WordPress User Audit is coming!

It’s important to keep user access to our sites more tightly monitored. This academic term, we will be conducting an audit of the user access to the public-facing UF Health websites. You may be contacted and asked to verify which users should be removed and if any users need their access level changed. We appreciate your help in a timely response to our inquiries!
