MARCH 2017

WordPress has released a security and maintenance update (4.7.3). We will update all sites within the next 24-48 hours. This should not interrupt any regular website maintenance. If you experience a problem, please contact us at webservices@ahc.ufl.edu

Join Web Services and take a look "Behind the Web" to learn more about tools and skills you can use to help build and maintain informative and easy-to-use websites. Forms Made Easy with {merge_tags}

Most forms ask for much of the same information regardless of the type of form that it is. The form will ask for the user’s full name, and often an email, phone number, and/or physical address of some type. What if some of this information added itself to the form without a single keystroke from the user?

Meet Merge Tags for Gravity Forms.  Merge tags make this possible with the inclusion of a short code for the type of information you want to auto-generate in that field.

For example, use Merge Tags to automatically add the user’s first and last name in the appropriate fields, you would include the shortcode for each field in the Advanced Tab, under the Default Value, for each field.

See a list of all merge tags available for use.

Track the Numbers That Matter

On February 15th, Web Services participated in an online conference on the use of analytics in higher ed. If you were unable to attend the viewing session, we have a few highlights to share with you.

For newer users of website analytics, the first presentation by Karine Joly, Executive Director of Higher Ed Experts, is the easiest starting point. In her presentation, Joly presented some of the research she has conducted on the use of analytics in higher ed. She mentions three states that reflect how institutions use analytics.

No analytics – this is a state in which the institution is using mostly opinion or anecdotal evidence to determine their website’s effectiveness.

Pseudo analytics – this is a state in which data is collected but selectively chosen and manipulated to convince others to follow a specific agenda. Joly makes a point to note that many institutions become stuck in this state.

Real analytics – in this state, institutions are using data analysis to determine a strategy that is part of an overall “road map” to a more effective website.

Are you interested in watching this presentation, or viewing other videos from this conference? Please contact UF Health Web Services at webservices@ahc.ufl.edu for more information.

What is Google Analytics?

Google Analytics is a free website traffic monitoring tool that tracks a website’s visitors  pages viewed, how they are referred to the site, how long their remain on a page, if and when they leave the site, and more. Google Analytics is a powerful tool that can be used for simple data gathering, or it can assist in setting up complex reporting that is used by marketing departments to evaluate the effectiveness of their online campaigns.

UF Health Web Services is able to provide tracking reports for site managers by request, as well as set-up individual accounts for websites that would like more access to their website traffic data.

To request Google Analytics data, please contact UF Health Web Services at webservices@ahc.ufl.edu.

New Features on Bridge Mini-Profiles

A pair of new sections have been added to the mini-profile section of your Bridge homepage (the right-side column). These new sections are detailed below:

• Manager Evaluations - if you supervise others who are responsible for evaluations of their staff, you will now be able to know if they have any late evaluations. This new Manager Evaluation section shows not only your upcoming and late evals, but the late evals that your managers have due as well.

• Pending Requisitions - for those who are involved in the workflow of approving and managing supply chain requisitions inside of Shands PeopleSoft, you will now be able to see a reminder of any pending requisitions you have outstanding.

If you have questions about these new sections (or ideas for new ones), please contact UF Health Web Services at webservices@ahc.ufl.edu

Uploading Files Broken in Firefox for Some Windows Users

Currently, there is a bug in Mozilla Firefox for Windows, version 51.0.1, that blocks some users from being able to upload files to our websites and potentially other websites, too. If you attempt to upload a file and do not see a file browser window pop-up after clicking on “select files”, then you will need to use Internet Explorer, Chrome or Safari to upload your files. This problem is inconsistent, and we do not have information from Mozilla on the release date for the fix.
