The benefits and drawbacks of carousels on your website
|

While carousels allow multiple pieces of content to occupy a single, coveted space, people often scroll past them. A stationary hero or integrating content in the UI may be a better solution. In the following article, the Nielsen Norman Group walks us through the challenges carousels posed and will help you understand why we've decided to leave them on the shelf for the time being.

Who is your website editing back up?
When vacation time comes, who is going to manage your website's updates in your absence?
If you don't know the answer to this question, it's a good time to have those discussions. This will help ensure your department/unit has proper coverage while you are away from your normal duties. Web Services can help give access to and train other users, by request, to assist with making this process easier.

Do profiles need to be removed from the UF Health Directory when someone leaves?
A question we often receive is how to delete someone's profile from the UF Health Directory once an individual plans to leave their position. Due to the integrations with the HR systems, a directory profile will automatically be taken down once the termination date has passed. It's still a good idea to check your website for any profile information added for former employees either manually or through the Directory block's integration.

What is "caching," and how does it work?
Caching is a way of storing data in way to make it easier to quickly access later. This is often done in a computer's memory. A cache, in relation to the internet, are the temporary browsing files that help websites load faster since the information has already been processed. When accessing a site online, your browser may be showing you a version of the site based on your computer's cache (called a local cache) or the website's cache.
These temporary files should overwrite themselves regularly as you visit a site, but they can become corrupted. You may visit your site after making an update and notice that your saved updates don't appear on the page. This may be due to your computer's browsing data needing a refresh.
Try viewing the page in another browser you don't use often as it's cache is likely not to conflict. But, if you still see the issue, contact Web Services and we will clear your website's cache, which can clear up the problem.
